Aloko is a simple fried ripe banana crispy from Benin. It is loved by many because of the consistency of its sugar after being fried. The cuisine is sold in the streets food centers, whereby you may find it chopped in various shapes.

Benin is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Burkina Faso to the north-west, and Niger to the north-east.

Frying of Aloko takes about 4 to 6 minutes. Sometimes a little amount of any purpose flour is coated on the banana pieces making them more crispy and less sticky.

In Benin most people like to consume juices from natural fruits. Aloko is eaten with Kolanut or Karkade drink.

The side dish can be Ardo a mix of vegetables cooked a little to lower raw state.

Prepare the followings

  • 5 Ripe bananas
  • Any purpose flour
  • Sugar
  • Oil
  • Pepper for taste

Cooking procedures

  • Peel off bananas, chop into pieces.
  • Take cooking pan and put oil into it, start to heat it.
  • Take flour and mix it with sugar.
  • Take banana pieces and wrap them with wheat mix.
  • Once oil heat up, start to deep fry them for 5 minutes less until golden color.
  • Put into a clean plate and repeat the frying process until all are done.
  • Take Aloko with pepper powder for taste.
  • Aloko can be eaten with fried fish, rice, meat roast and any other favored meal.
  • Enjoy with friends and family.
